EXPEDITION
Two weeks after leaving the White House Theodore went on a trip to Africa with
his son Kermit. The trip was sponsored by a institution of complex museums owned by
the federal government. During his trip Theodore was supposed to hunt for animals so
they could be studied. The trip lasted 11 months and during that time the two men shot
and killed over five hundred animals which were everything from Zebras to Pythons.
After his trip to Africa he ran a third party called the Bull Moose in which he almost died
in on October 14, 1912. As he stood up to speak in a convertible Limousine, a man from
the crowd pulled out a gun off his vest and fired it at him. Luckily the passed through
Roosevelt’s shirt pocket where he had a speech paper folded four times over and a metal
eyeglass case which slowed down the bullets speed preventing any serious injury.
